From the sponsors:

gdgt live in NY is not only the official kickoff event for CE Week, but it is the only CE Week event open to consumers.

Where: The Altman Building – 135 West 18th Street, New York, NY 10011
When: Monday, June 25th – 7:00pm to 10:00pm
Why: Because we know you love technology as much as we do and you deserve a chance to meet face-to-face with companies that make the products and services you’re thinking about buying.

When you enter the show you’ll have a choice between a free gdgt T-shirt and a free gdgt-branded iPhone case from Speck Products. We’ve got a ton of amazing gear up for grabs.

If you want to have a drink, you’ll have to head downstairs to the Inspiration Lounge powered by Monster.

If you’re one of the first 20 people to bring an old mouse or keyboard to the Logitech table to recycle, they’ll exchange it for a brand new Logitech Color Mouse.

THE VILLAGE VOICE ONLINE HAS A NEW EASY TO USE LAYOUT

April 29, 2012 Leave a comment

The Village Voice online has a clean well-ordered new layout that makes it easy to understand and easy to use again.

The new design is a big difference from the Village Voice home page of recent memory which seemed to have content in modules all over the place in no discernable order. Except for featured articles in neat modules in the top third of the web page, articles are given their own latitude on the web page, no longer competing with each other for attention. The Village Voice logo is top center with the brand colors maintained throughout, while color separates ad content from Village Voice content. Ads are prominent, offering great exposure, but don’t interfere with visual scans of the page for news content. Congratulations on your new design Village Voice. It’s easy to use again. Hooray.

PINTEREST HAS MY INTEREST

April 25, 2012 Leave a comment

Pinterest has my interest – because it showcases the best images of everything, quality higher than Google, and just as findable as anything on the internet. In fact, it is its own database, one we get to create, in the fashion of a Wikipedia and  Indymedia. Like Flickr, you can curate, filling in the necessary biographical data about the image including source and author and then you get to say whatever you want to say. And more importantly, everything on it goes viral, with the length of its reach growing based on the level of people’s interest.

It’s a private community; you have to get an invite to join. if you’re cool, you get inside. Inside it functions as a museum, with each member serving as curator, placing photos on the wall in different rooms or canvases they call boards, and the numbers of visitors each room receives is based on who tells others about your room by sharing the things on your wall. Artistically, you don’t have a page so much as you have a showroom, and it looks like you can create unlimited showrooms.  Each image has a lasting legacy, a long tail, and just like in a museum, can be referenced long after others have added to the collection.

We’re pulling in the best of the best, anything known to please the eye. It all suggests a new national standard. Plus, people can join hands and populate rooms together. All of these collaborations should result in a well-polished history of human invention and image-making. Pinterest is an American arts community, populated by lovers. It’s the perfect place to learn to live with one another.
